May 27th....

is Bob's Birthday, and this year it is our 10-th anniversary.
Bob got breakfast in bed with the boy, along with matching Coca Cola t-shirts.
the shirts were Ivan's idea.
I got Bob a very nice pool float. He likes it!

Bob also got a tropical "event" for his special day.  It wasn't so bad......
We did lose part of our roof shingles, our power for 18 hours, and our clean pool.

a bit breezy I'd say.

No electricity gives you plenty of creative time. I made these for my little shop...

and another sign from found beach lumber

the garage sales have been pretty good....
found these candle holders for $3.00, they are now in my little shop.
More shop photos tomorrow on Wednesdays at the shop! TTFN.

all good...

here are a few of my favorite things.... right now!
San Pellegrino-Limonata - it will cure any thirst!

This recipe for any type of wild caught (because farm raised is not so good) fish.
It's so easy....just throw it on the grill (be sure not to overcook!)

  • 2 (8 ounce) fillets fish, cut in half
season fish with the following, and place on grill
  • 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
baste with the following
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 lemon, juiced
top with
  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onion (white part only)
serve!

I bought a new hat! Yes! I found a hat to fit my big head!
Hats are a necessity in the HOT HOT south!
Old Navy

I must must must get this bag!
I love cross-body bags, and this is a nice big size!
Keen

Check out this amazing pillow from anthropologie! Oh MY!
I hope to try to re-create this pillow. Yes, I may go do this right now.
I will let you know how it goes!

Wednesday's at the shop

I am going to try to do a little organization by days with my blog to keep me on task.
I think Wednesdays will be a post about the shop, and what I am doing there.
Lately, I have been painting starfish...lots and lots of starfish!

on pillows

orange, and blues!

on tote bags.

seahorses too!

shell collecting sacks.

dining chairs

lots and lots of starfish

I will glue a starfish to anything that doesn't move,
and boy do we sell a ton of them!
Here are some basic tips on painting your own starfish,
because really, the world needs more and more starfish!
Be sure to use the appropriate paint for whatever materials you are painting on!
I start with a basic cut stencil.

I layer many colors.

Using many colors and shading give it dimension.

I used up to 5 paint colors for these starfish.

always add a bit of the complementary colors to give it a pop!

The finished product...a ring of starfish!
YAY!

spring

The best thing about spring time in a new place is all of the surprises that await you...

Trees/shrubs in your yard that you couldn't identify when dormant, sprout lovely flowers.
White Hibiscus

You discover a new southern smell, fall in love, and plant it everywhere!
Confederate Jasmine

Remembering the thrill of a good southern thunder storm,
and capturing your first bolt of lightning in a photo(it took about 20 tries).
look at the bottom right corner....ooh...ahhh!

Finding a nest of baby birds on the upper porch, and not caring that they messed up your drapes.
Happy Spring!

Happy Mother's Day

Me and my boy have been spending some quality time together.
Recently he got to spend the afternoon with me at work.
Of course, his favorite thing was a fox stole.

and a blue popsicle

We also spent some time at the shrimp festival,
where PIRATES were the overwhelming favorite theme.

super moon!

We also spent loads of quality time on our travels to Sea World.
We spent 7 hours on a bus... oh ya! It was about 110 degrees,
and there was no lack of $4.00 sodas!
Every attraction started and stopped with a souvenir shop, full of junk made in China.
Overall, I give Sea World a 3. So many attractions were closed,
but I just about had a fit when I walked miles to the Sea Otter attraction,
(I do love a good Sea Otter exhibit) only to find a sign saying they were napping.
I wanted to give someone a smack down!
There were a few highlights....see below.
